Detail

Uniform Invoice Software version 5 includes a new default / standard invoice template shipped with the installer program. This document explains the changes made to the template, and the default hotkeys defined by this new version.

The default or standard invoice template shipped with Uniform Invoice Software version 3 or earlier contains buttons on the worksheets, which are implemented using ActiveX controls. With version 4, a contextual task pane is added to each worksheet, which contains commands available to each sheet, and the ActiveX command buttons were removed from the default template shipped with UIS - however command buttons implemented with ActiveX technique are still supported.

Starting from Uniform Invoice Software version 5, we removed the support for on-sheet ActiveX buttons and added support for shape buttons.

In Microsoft Excel, and also other Microsoft programs on Windows, such as Word, ActiveX controls are widely supported. Unlike form control, ActiveX controls are standalone programs outside Microsoft Excel. For this reason, using of ActiveX control introduces complexity to an Excel workbook file.

With this new version of the standard invoice template, we replaced all ActiveX buttons with shape buttons - which are actually "Text Box" controls formatted with proper background colors to mimic the look and feel of buttons. With the release of UIS version 5, all templates published here on InvoicingTemplate.com are converted to use this new types of buttons.

If you are using an old template, and install Uniform Invoice Software version 5, the invoicing program will convert the button types automatically.

If you are using a template that does not have buttons on the sheet, but want to add the buttons, follow the steps below.

  • Backup your invoice template.
  • Open it as usual.
  • Switch to design mode by clicking the "Design Mode" button on the "Invoice" ribbon tab.
  • Go to Excel "Insert" ribbon.
  • Click "Text Box" in the "Text" group, and click the location on the sheet where you want to put the button. Excel creates a new text box on the sheet, and put the control in text edit mode.
  • Enter the button caption text, such as "Customers".
  • Click the corner of the text box. This exits text edit mode, and selects the text box itself.
  • Go to the "Format" ribbon tab (This tab shows only when the shape object is selected).
  • In the "Shape Styles" group, click the "More" down-arrow on the preset style list to show the list of all preset theme fill effects. Choose one of the feel effect from the list. For example, with the default template shipped with UIS, we choose "Subtle effect - Black, Dark 1" - the forth one on the left-most column. By assign the text box a proper background, the text box now looks like a button.
  • Name the text box by entering the name in the name box located on the left-end of Excel formula bar. For example, the text box labeled as "Customers" should be named "oknCmdCustomer".
  • Now right-click the control and choose "Assign Macro".
  • Enter the following macro command.
    UisClickProc
  • Repeat the above steps to add all the other buttons. See table below for button names and captions.
  • Once done, exit design mode by clicking the "Design Mode" button again on the "Invoice" ribbon tab.
  • Save the template by clicking the Save button on Excel quick access toolbar.

The following table shows all the button names, captions and default hotkeys assigned to each button.

The hot keys are defined in the "shortcutkeys.txt" file. This file is stored in the program installation folder. For example with 64-bit Office / Excel by default the installation folder of Uniform Invoice Software is "c:\Program Files\Uniform Software\Uniform Invoice Software". The file contains comments that explain how to modify default shortcut keys.
