This makes the truck image to be on the center of the printed invoice. If you are following this sample to insert your own image, you should adjust the width and height according to your own image.
  10. Go to the "Picture" tab. In the "Image Control" section, set "Brightness" to 85%, set contrast to 30%. Again, you should choose these values depending on your image colors.
  11. Click the "Compress" button to make the inserted image smaller in file size.
  12. Close the "Format Picture" dialog box.
  13. Click OK to close the "Header" dialog box.
  14. Click "Print Preview" on the "Page Setup" dialog box.
  15. Excel shows what it will like when the "Invoice" worksheet is printed.
  16. You may need to open again the "Header" dialog box to adjust the size, brightness and contrast to get a best / satisfying background image effect.
  17. Once everything is done, click "Design Mode" button on the "Invoice" ribbon tab to exit design mode.
  18. Save the template.

  1. As always, back up the template and database file. As stated before, in this sample, we'll use the simple invoicing format built in c5076 Simple Invoice Template - Moving Taxable Controls.
  2. Open the template.
  3. Click the "Design Mode" button on the "Invoice" worksheet.
  4. Modify the text label "Ship To" (cell location $I$8) to "Service Summary".
  5. Drag your mouse to select all the fields (including labels) on the shipping address section, ranging from I9 to K14.
  6. Push your mouse key on the border of the selected area, move it to a new location outside the print area. In this sample, it is moved to T9:V14.

    Excel spreadsheets support a special name "Print_Area". If a worksheet has a name defined for a range, then when you issue the print command, only the range defined by this name will be printed. All templates available here on InvoicingTemplate.com have this name defined. If a cell / field is moved out of this area, then it will not be included on printing - we say it is not printable.

  7. Drag your mouse to select all the cells that belongs to the original shipping address fields, i.e. I9:K16.
  8. Click the "Merge and Center" command in the "Alignment" group on Excel "Home" ribbon tab. Push down "Top Align", "Align Left" and "Wrap Text" buttons.
  9. To make this section differs from other fields, you can assign it a border. In this sample, we used dashed borders.
  10. Assign this section a name, "oknSummary". To do this, enter the name "oknSummary" into the name box on the left-end of the formula bar.
  11. Unlock the "oknSummary" field. To do this, right-click the "oknSummary" range, choose Format Cells. On the Protection tab, clear the "Locked" property and then click OK. This is necessary in order to have the field manually editable / fillable when creating invoices.
  12. To create a data validation for this field, go to Excel "Data" ribbon tab. From the "Data Tools" group choose "Data Validation" and then "Data Validation" again. Choose "Text length" from the "Allow" list, enter 1 and 255 into the "Minimum" and "Maximum" field respectively. Click OK. If is an optional step - if you don't create this data validation, Uniform Invoice Software will do this type of checks automatically on saving invoices.
  13. Exit design mode by clicking the "Design Mode" button on the "Invoice" ribbon tab again.
  14. Click the "Invoices" button on the "Invoice" ribbon tab.
  15. Click "Custom Fields" to open the Custom Field Manager.
  16. Click "Add Field" to open the "Add New Custom Field" dialog box.
  17. Fill in the field name "Summary", and fill in size "255" (This is the max field size allowed in an Access database field).
  18. Click OK to close the dialog box.
  19. If you would like to have this field visible as a column on the "Invoices" data list window, click the "Columns" button on the "Invoices" data list window, and then check the "Summary" option.
  20. Save the customized simple invoice format by clicking the "Save" button on Excel quick access toolbar.
