How to Use

Assuming you have downloaded and installed Uniform Invoice Software:

  1. Download Lightweight Service Invoice Template. Double-click the downloaded file to extract all files.
  2. Open the template "lightweightservice.xlsx" or "lightweightservice-uis.xlsx" with Microsoft Excel.
  3. Click "Design Mode" on the "Invoice" Excel ribbon tab to put it into design mode.
  4. Enter your business information and replace the default logo image to make it your own. (How?)
  5. Click "Design Mode" again to exit design mode.
  6. Create invoice (tutorial movie)!

Lightweight Service Invoice Template is the service edition of Lightweight Sales Invoice Template. It was created from the sales invoice template by removing the Shipping Address section.

Uniform Invoice Software uses Excel invoice templates as its front-end so that all Excel features are available to you. For example, you can easily move the fields on an existing template, such as this lightweight sales invoice template, to create a new invoice layout.

Moving a cell or a group of cells is easy in Excel. First, you click to select the cell or drag your mouse to select all the cells you want to move. And then, drag the border of the selected area to move it to the new location where you want to place the cell or cells. The moving content will overwrite the content in the target location, so make sure the target range is empty (not used) in Lightweight Service Invoice Template before doing the movement. And, if the target location contains merged cells, sometimes the movement fails. So it is also helpful to make sure the target location does not contain merged cell. If the target location Lightweight Service Invoice Template is overlapping the original range and the original range contains merged cells, the movement could also fail because you cannot change part of merged cell - if this happens, you need to first move the cells to a temporal location in Lightweight Service Invoice Template that are empty (i.e. not used), unmerge cells, and then move the cells from the temporal location to the desired location. Naming a control or an image is easy in Microsoft Excel. First make sure your template Lightweight Service Invoice Template is in design mode. Right-click the control or image you want to assign it a name, choose Properties. On the Properties box, enter the name into the "name" field and press enter. Note that if you have several controls that you want to assign different names, you can do so by entering the name and then clicking to choose another control without closing the Properties window.

If you use the Uniform Invoice Software version of Lightweight Service Invoice Template, there are additional taxing options on the Taxes tab of the Settings window. The first is the option for choosing the number of tax items; you have 3 choices - no tax, one tax and two taxes. Secondly, you can set the names and rates in percentage for each tax, such as VAT, GST or PST, or simply Sales Tax. Thirdly, there are a group of checkbox options on the dialog box, including: "Tax invoice total including shipping cost", which adds the shipping cost to the taxable amount when checked; "Tax 2 is applied to tax 1", which adds the amount of "tax 1" to the taxable amount if checked; and "tax rate can be zero", which allows you to set any of the tax rates to be the value of zero. If you modify the options on this dialog box, the spreadsheet will be changed accordingly if needed.

While the free version of Lightweight Service Invoice Template is simple, the result created by using this template is as beautiful and professional as many commercial invoicing software program, or even better. It is an ideal tool for small businesses and freelances who offer services and don't need a shipping section on their invoicing form.
