In the welding and fabrication service business there many ways a proposal or quote could be offered, it is also true when doing invoices and statements. This fifth sample on our welding invoices, Welding / Fabrication Tax Invoice, deals with the tax options.

Welding Invoice Template (c8003) is our most complicated welding and fabrication invoicing template online here on It calculates prices on 3 selling modes - sold by " Foot, Shear Cut Inches, Flame Cut Inches", sold by " SQ. FT.", and sold by " INCHES". It is useful for welders who use exactly the same pricing mode, but others may need a more flexible way - more fillable invoice details - so that they can offer prices in the way they like. Simple Welding Invoice Template / Simple Welding Invoicing Form (c5064) offers the most simplified welding invoice. Welding and Fabrication Service Invoice Template / Welding and Fabrication Billing Template (c8004) is based on c8003 but removes the complex price calculation - this enables you to fill in the prices manually, and it is implemented as a service invoice template and thus does not contain the shipping address information. Welder Invoicing Template / Welder Billing Form (c7021) is based on c8004, and it restores the shipping address section, but removed the "Type" column from the invoice detail section.

This invoice template, which we named Welding / Fabrication Tax Invoice or Welding / Fabrication Tax Billing Template, is based on Welder Invoicing Template / Welder Billing Form (c7021). With this template, we removed the Dimension column from the invoice detail section, but move the Taxable column from outside the printable area to be inside the printable area. This makes the Taxable column, which is implmented as a checkbox column that is printed or included when the invoice is exacted or is generated as a PDF welding invoice. In order to create this template from c7021, we first unprotect the Invoice worksheet, switch to design mode, move the Dimension column outside the printable area, and the move in the taxable option boxes.

Merge and Center works by merging the selected cells into one and then centering the data in the new combined cell. While design a template layout like Welding / Fabrication Tax Invoice, Merge and Center could be a handy tool if used properly. One thing to note, however, since Uniform Invoice Software (UIS) relies on cell names (or field names) to create the relationship between the Excel form cells and the database fields, you should make sure the cell that contains a field name is the first one in the group of cells that are to be merged. This way, UIS will work with the merged cell by reading from or writing to the named cell.

Once Welding / Fabrication Tax Invoice is unprotected and switched into design mode, you can now move the controls to the new location you like. To do this, click to select a control, or push the CTRL on your keyboard and then select all the controls you want to move using mouse. Then, drag (one of) the select controls to move them to the new location.

Note that if you use the Uniform Invoice Software and need to show the control on an extracted worksheet, then the control should be named with an "oknWidget_" prefix. For example, if you move the Taxable checkboxes into the printable form, then the checkboxes should be named with "oknWidget_" prefix, such as oknWidget_taxtable1, oknWidget_taxable2, oknWidget_taxable3...

Moving a cell or a group of cells is easy in Excel. First, you click to select the cell or drag your mouse to select all the cells you want to move. And then, drag the border of the selected area to move it to the new location where you want to place the cell or cells. The moving content will overwrite the content in the target location, so make sure the target range is empty (not used) in Welding / Fabrication Tax Invoice before doing the movement. And, if the target location contains merged cells, sometimes the movement fails. So it is also helpful to make sure the target location does not contain merged cell. If the target location Welding / Fabrication Tax Invoice is overlapping the original range and the original range contains merged cells, the movement could also fail because you cannot change part of merged cell - if this happens, you need to first move the cells to a temporal location in Welding / Fabrication Tax Invoice that are empty (i.e. not used), unmerge cells, and then move the cells from the temporal location to the desired location. If you need to unmerge a cell, first select it and then click the "Merge and Center" command on the Format toolbar in Excel 2003; or click the "Merge and Center" command on the Home ribbon tab in Excel 2007, 2010 and Excel 2013.

If you use the Uniform Invoice Software version of Welding / Fabrication Tax Invoice, there are additional taxing options on the Taxes tab of the Settings window. The first is the option for choosing the number of tax items; you have 3 choices - no tax, one tax and two taxes. Secondly, you can set the names and rates in percentage for each tax, such as VAT, GST or PST, or simply Sales Tax. Thirdly, there are a group of checkbox options on the dialog box, including: "Tax invoice total including shipping cost", which adds the shipping cost to the taxable amount when checked; "Tax 2 is applied to tax 1", which adds the amount of "tax 1" to the taxable amount if checked; and "tax rate can be zero", which allows you to set any of the tax rates to be the value of zero. If you modify the options on this dialog box, the spreadsheet will be changed accordingly if needed.

Like other form designs here on, Welding / Fabrication Tax Billing Template is free (offered to you at a price of 0.00USD). It works on Windows XP and all newer versions of Windows, and Excel 2007, 2010, 2013 or 2016.
