Whether you are a web designer or graphic designer, you want to make your works attractive. Your invoices and bills could be attractive too. This template based on the c4030 designer (gray theme) added a bamboo Chinese painting created using illustrator and exported as PNG.

Our designer invoicing templates series was created to show you the most attractive, at least very different from the standard template shipped with Uniform Invoice Software. Some of them are suggested by our customers. As you can find Microsoft Excel provides fairly enough tools to customizing the look and feel of the form. A background image, or a foreground image added as a shape object, is one of the great ways to decorate a form. Look at this PDF designer bill sample, the image is included in the PDF invoices generated with Uniform Invoice Software too.

The bamboo Chinese painting picture is added as a background image which covers the whole printable form. While the form itself is still in the gray color theme, the image is in green and set to 25% opacity. This level of opacity makes sure the foreground text (black) visible even when it is on the visible background.

The PNG image was originally created using illustrator as vector image so the background colors is easily removed (set to transparent). As you can see many images / background pictures used in the templates here on have a transparent background. The benefit of this is that you usually don't have worry about the boundaries of image and the printable sheet. On the other hand, if an image has a very prominent background (such as red), and boundaries of the printable Excel sheet do not correctly cover the whole background image, the final result may look very towering.

This form layout includes a column of "Taxable" checkboxes that are placed on column B - outside the printable section. Which means that, these boxes work, but will not be visible on the invoices that you print using this form (or PDF invoices created using this form). The checkbox are form controls that are named "oknWidget_taxable1, oknWidget_taxable2, oknWidget_taxable3 ... oknWidget_taxable6". Each tax box is linked to a hidden cell that are named "oknTaxable_1, oknTaxable_2, oknTaxable_3 ... oknTaxable_6". We then use an Excel array formula to calculate the taxable subtotal:

{=SUM ( oknTaxable_1:oknTaxable_6 * oknLineTotal_1:oknLineTotal_6 )}

And then, the tax is calculated using a formula like this:

=ROUND ( IF ( oknTaxType=0,0, oknTax1Rate * ( oknLineTotalTaxable + IF ( oknTaxTotalIncludingShippingCost = 0, 0 , oknShippingCost))), 2 )

If all the invoiced items are taxable (or not taxable), you can safely delete all the "Taxable" checkbox controls, and then modify tax formula to this to simplify the tax calculation:

=ROUND ( IF ( oknTaxType=0,0, oknTax1Rate * ( oknSubtotal + IF ( oknTaxTotalIncludingShippingCost = 0, 0 , oknShippingCost))), 2 )

Do you liking Chinese painting? If so, you may like to add it to your invoices too. Take this as a sample or a starting point, you may be able to create beautiful forms that are very private and special to your own business.
