How to Use

Assuming you have downloaded and installed Uniform Invoice Software:

  1. Download Business Invoice Template. Double-click the downloaded file to extract all files.
  2. Open the template "businessinvoicetemplate.xlsx" or "businessinvoicetemplate-uis.xlsx" with Microsoft Excel.
  3. Click "Design Mode" on the "Invoice" Excel ribbon tab to put it into design mode.
  4. Enter your business information and replace the default logo image to make it your own. (How?)
  5. Click "Design Mode" again to exit design mode.
  6. Create invoice (tutorial movie)!

What information should an invoice include

As detailed on What Information Should My Invoices Include (score.org) and What are the legal requirements for issuing an invoice in the USA (quora.com), your invoice must include certain information in order to meet the business requirements and legal requirements. While most of our templates are designed with businesses inside United States by default, we do have a number of form designs that target other countries and regions. Please visit Invoicing Forms for Specific Countries and Regions for more information.

This template is based on c5115 billing invoice template. It has exactly the same number of fields as the original one, but with a different form layout. Like the standard one shipped with Uniform Invoice Software, these are general-purpose templates.

Business-specific formats

We also have designed invoice formats that are specific to certain businesses. For example, c6001 Clothing Shop Receipt includes the "size" column on the detail section; cm003 Clothing Store (Manufacturer) Invoice with Size Breakdown adds even more columns, i.e. "Color", "0-2 XS/P", "4-6 S", and so son, so that you can break down quantity in detail for the clothes you sold.

Another good sample is the use of background image / watermark. For example c4012 Jewelry Receipt Template has an image of ring and gem in the background. This shows clearly what business the template is designed for.

This types of designs are created using custom fields - i.e. user-defined fields.

If you need more

A custom field is a field added to both the underlying database and the front-end Excel worksheet. So if your business requires more detailed / specific information on a form, simply add a new field using the custom field.

At the earlier stage of Uniform Invoice Software, when our program is called Excel Invoice Manager, custom fields is added using "Database Designer". With Uniform Invoice Software, it is a built-in feature. See c4051 Simple Sample - Discount Amount Field for a detailed tutorial.
